summery brunch

F O O D & P L A C E S || B&H Buildings

It may sometimes take a couple of months pre-organisation but brunch with my girls is always a hoot. In between jobs, travelling, houses and just pure LIFE it's always a pleasure to catch up with some of my oldest pals. Highly recommended by a few friends and colleagues, we ended up going for "bottomless brunch" [the new phenomenon in the dining world] at the B&H Buildings in Clerkenwell. At first, I wasn't sure how any of these places were making money if it was bottomless but went with it. Soon the fine print was made clear to us when the top-ups stopped flowing: "bottomless" for 1.5 hours from the time of booking [you've been warned]. So unless you're a stormer through brunch, it's not as crazy as it sounds. Nevertheless, the bubbles were a lovely touch to a tasty brunch and we found ourselves quickly giggling the afternoon away.

The brunch drinks aka cocktail menu was small but [seemingly] perfectly formed - the girls went straight for the first of the two bottomless options: seasonal bellini [the other was bloody mary] whereas I tried the Hollingsworth Iced Tea first. Both drinks were nice, very easy to drink choices.

The brunch food menu was split into four sections: actual breakfast, sweets [drop scones or french toast], poached eggs on english muffins and crispy potato hash - all with a few varieties. We went for a mixture of Huevos Benedictors, Florentine and Crispy Potato Hash with Braised Beef or with Curried Cauliflower and Broccoli. Then for dessert [yes, we went there - it looked too good to not share a couple] there was French Toast with banana and almond and Drop Scones with summer fruits. Overall, I thought it was a tasty brunch but not the best I've tried [7/10].

My favourite part about B&H Buildings was the venue itself - it is so green and tropical like inside. It's almost like sitting in a grand summer house abroad [I'm thinking along the lines of a diplomatic residency in the Caribbean or South East Asia - or at least what TV shows and films portray anyway]. So although outside was pretty bleak and grey, there we were in our bright summer dresses sitting in an airy, lush and open room with a cute conservatory behind us. To top it off, Emilia and I unintentionally made matchy-matchy with our outfits and armchairs. Bonus!

do you know any other great new brunch spots we should try?

hope you all had a great weekend!
