splash of colour

Last weekend, I went to Notting Hill Carnival - Europe's biggest street festival (or as I like to call it, street party!) held right in the centre of London. The event is led by the West Indian community here and is one of my favourite annual events.

There is always great music, amazing costumes, the most delicious food (I have jerk chicken with rice and peas, salad, plantain & dumplings, yum) and lots of dancing. This year, it definitely didn't disappoint! Everyone was celebrating in what I can only call a sea of colours. Basically, think of a rainbow and imagine it taking over the streets of Notting Hill.

This year's discovery: Good Times bus (pic 3), where we danced away to soul, funk and old school hip hop.

This year's highlight: chasing the tail of the Carnival procession (pic 1 & 2) and watching everyone soak in the Caribbean vibes.

Can't wait for next year =)

Does not even compare but me:

hola desde madrid

Hello from Madrid!

This weekend, I hopped over to the great city of Madrid to visit the boy. It was so good to see the sun again. Our days were filled with tapas (pimientos de padron y huevos rotos), pork made a million ways (jamon, salchicon, ribs!), ice cream (caramello, yoghurt & nocciola) and my newly discovered Spain's favourite drink tinto de verano. I've also become addicted to Nestea a limon - super refreshing after a day at the pool.

So yes, good food, good company and good times in Madrid :)

Can't wait to go back!

leopard feet and cat ears

Hope you've all had a good week.

Last weekend, at Spitalfields for AFWL 2012, I also had a browse of the normal marketplace and managed to pick up an absolute gem: my cat ears gold ring

If you've never been, I would highly recommend going down to the market as there are always great finds AND it's super close to Brick Lane which has a great selection of vintage stores if like me you love a good hunt AND lots of yummy food stalls for when you get a bit peckish.

I've been pairing the ring up with these leopard print not-too-chunky creepers just to bring out my inner cat - let me know what you think; all I know is, it's going to take a while for me to wear anything else!

p.s. apologies for my huge fingers in the second photo...!
p.p.s. have a great weekend!

africa calling

This weekend, Diane and I wandered down to Africa Fashion Week London 2012 (AFWL) to check out fresh talent and design from the continent; this year held in and around London's Spitalfields market.

We had no idea what to expect and had prepared by pre-purchasing x2 Standard tickets (£7 each). On arrival, we couldn't help but notice an array of fabulously dressed people in african print dresses, skirts, suits, headscarfs, bags, shoes... Africa and its bustling market vibes had landed in central London and we were surrounded by colourf, the smell of delicious food, excited chattering voices and cameras flashing left right centre.

Luckily, we are both quite relaxed so squeezing through the crowds wasn't daunting. After picking up our free goodie bags (included fashion magazines and 10% off stall prices), we wandered through the stalls to see what was on offer and looked out for our next purchases!

I managed to bag myself some lovely necklaces (photo below) designed by Annesi. We met some very talented designers and they left us feeling very inspired - both to learn more about African fashion and on how to incorporate it into Western fashion.

Next stop, purchase some print and get designing. An outfit to go with my new necklaces is tempting... watch this space!

going for gold

The 2012 Olympic Games are currently being held on home turf; a real honour and has made me even more proud to live in London.

Thanks to my good buddy Kevin, yesterday morning I got the chance to be part of the Olympics atmosphere for the first time ever - and it didn't disappoint!

It was the most surreal and exciting experience; we went to watch Beach Volleyball, held in a giant purple and gold stadium, in the middle of Horse Guards Parade (normally used for annual ceremonies like Trooping the Colour).

Surrounded by the Houses of Parliament, the BT tower and the London Eye amongst various key landmarks, it felt like the best venue (outside of the Olympic Park!). The crowd was absolutely buzzing - hilarious commentator, mexican waves, Benny Hill, dancers, rakers and sun shinning brightly above it all. An unforgettable experience and left me thinking "am I in London or Club Tropicana?"

Here are my snapshots of the event and my Team GB "going for gold" gear for the day; happy 2012 London Olympics everyone!

Hi, my name is Cathia and I'm addicted to jewellery (80% rings, 10% bracelets, 10% necklaces) and bags (100%).

I don't intend to give up this addiction; instead, I would like to share my ramblings, thoughts, ideas (if I ever have any), discoveries and ultimately develop my obsession with you all.

So, if you have any great recommendations out there for me, I'd love to hear from you!
